As a rule, the front legs of your sofa should sit on the rug, so the piece reads as part of the seating rather than an island. Measure the seating area first, then size up rather than down. Each product lists its dimensions so you can match it to the space.

Vacuum gently to keep the pile lifted and lift spills promptly with a damp cloth rather than rubbing them in. Smaller sizes are often machine washable on a cool cycle; check the product for the recommended method. A pad underneath keeps it flat and in place.
